Like many, I bought into the “traditional” roadmap—thinking it would deliver the security, success, happiness, and fulfillment everyone talks about. On paper, it did. But here’s the truth:
That layoff? It turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Just months earlier, I had already drafted a resignation letter I never sent. Why? Because deep down, I knew that job no longer fit the life I wanted. I knew I didn’t really want what I was chasing. But I hadn’t given myself permission to walk away.
I convinced myself that the time, energy, and effort I’d already invested were too much to just let go. I thought leaving would mean admitting defeat.
I fell into the trap of believing that proving my worth meant making others comfortable and helping them get what they needed—even if it meant putting my own needs on hold.
I stayed in that space far longer than I care to admit, until Life and the Universe stepped in to teach me two key lessons:
1. Things always feel “off” when I don’t listen to or trust myself.
2. It’s my responsibility to create—and fiercely protect—the life I want to live.
The truth? The security, success, happiness, and fulfillment I was craving were already within reach. I just had to give myself permission to claim them.
Since that moment of clarity, I’ve used my degrees (M.Div. from Howard University, B.A. from Oklahoma State University), my experience working with college students, corporate professionals, and entrepreneurs, and my passion for understanding human behavior to help individuals and organizations across the globe move from uncertainty to clarity—finding their next steps and creating a life that aligns with their true desires.
